Addressing students during the “Yuva Sangam – Phase 6” programme organised at Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Dharamsala, the Governor said the country’s youth represented its greatest strength and must equip themselves for rapidly changing technological and professional environments.
The programme was organised under the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” initiative in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and witnessed participation from students of various institutions, including a delegation from National Institute of Technology Puducherry.
Gupta encouraged students to move beyond conventional career paths and explore emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science, saying these fields offered immense opportunities and would play a crucial role in driving India’s economic and technological advancement in the coming years.
Emphasising holistic education, the Governor said learning should not remain confined to obtaining degrees or securing employment. Instead, he said students must strive to become socially responsible, sensitive and ethical citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to society and nation-building. He urged youth to adopt innovation-driven thinking and focus on entrepreneurship and skill development to create opportunities not only for themselves but also for others.
Highlighting the importance of balanced personality development, Gupta said academic excellence should go hand in hand with leadership qualities, social responsibility and moral values. He also advised students to remain rooted in India’s cultural heritage while embracing modern technological progress.
In his welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Sat Prakash Bansal described “Yuva Sangam” as an important platform for strengthening emotional and cultural integration among youth from different regions of the country. He said India’s true strength lies in its diversity and such initiatives help students understand different languages, traditions and social practices while fostering mutual respect and national unity.
Chancellor Prof Harmohinder Bedi underlined the importance of dialogue, coexistence and cultural harmony in a multicultural society. The programme also featured cultural performances by students from different states, reflecting the themes of national integration, youth empowerment and cultural exchange.
