As part of the celebrations, a cleanliness drive was launched at Neugal Park, with officers and staff members of the Forest Department actively participating in the campaign. The participants cleaned various sections of the park and spread awareness about the need to maintain cleanliness in public places and protect natural resources.
Addressing the gathering, Ashish Butail emphasised that protecting the environment should be the collective responsibility of every citizen. He said that environmental conservation has become one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity and called upon people to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
“The protection of the environment is our top priority. Every individual must contribute towards preserving forests, water resources, and biodiversity for future generations,” he said. He also stressed the need to reduce pollution, promote afforestation, and encourage sustainable development.
The MLA appreciated the efforts of the Forest Department in organising awareness programmes and cleanliness campaigns aimed at sensitising people to environmental issues. He said such initiatives play an important role in encouraging public participation in conservation activities.
Sanjiv Sharma, Divisional Forest Officer, Palampur, highlighted the significance of World Environment Day, which is observed globally every year on June 5 to raise awareness about environmental protection and inspire action against climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. He urged citizens to plant more trees, avoid the use of single-use plastics and actively participate in efforts to keep their surroundings clean
The programme concluded with a pledge by participants to work towards environmental conservation and support initiatives aimed at protecting nature. The cleanliness drive at Neugal Park received an encouraging response from department officials and staff, who reiterated their commitment to preserving the region’s rich natural heritage.
