Downgrade of government boys’ school to higher secondary level in Nurpur angers students

This partial restoration of the boys’ school has triggered resentment among students who were aspiring to take admission to the senior secondary school affiliated to the Himachal board in the town. Many students such as Shreya, Sunakshi, Navya, Vani, Vansh, Naman Singh, Kewal, Nitish, Vishal and Abhinay Rana stated that they had been waiting for the restoration of Class XI and XII classes for the past three weeks. “We were expecting the full restoration of the school affiliated to the Himachal board but instead, the facility has been downgraded to a high school, leaving us in a lurch,” they added.

Deputy Director of Education, Dharamsala, Kamlesh Kumari stated that similar notifications had been implemented in Dharamsala, Dehra and Sarkaghat. She added that, following the issuance of the notification, one CBSE-affiliated coeducational Government Senior Secondary School and one coeducational high school affiliated to the Himachal board would function in the current academic session.

Meanwhile, former minister Rakesh Pathania criticised the government notification, calling it ironical that the schools affiliated to the Himachal board were only partially restored. He added that if the BJP returns to power, Government Senior Secondary School for Boys would be fully restored and relocated to a new premises after Government College shifts to its new building in the Surajtilla area.
