Out of 21,345 total votes polled, Congress secured 11,309 votes (52.98%), while the BJP managed 9,595 votes (approx. 45%). The remaining votes were divided among Independent candidates. This decisive mandate handed Congress a clear majority in the newly formed civic body.

Political observers attribute the BJP’s defeat to rampant factionalism, weak election management and a fragmented campaign. Party insiders concede that local leadership rifts severely hampered worker mobilisation and voter outreach across several wards. The lack of a unified strategy ultimately prevented the party from capitalising on its traditional support base.

Despite these challenges, senior BJP leader and state spokesperson Trilok Kapoor was widely recognised for working tirelessly to bridge factional divides and energise the cadre. However, his solo efforts were not enough to overcome the internal rifts that persisted until polling day. Furthermore, analysts noted that several senior BJP leaders joined the campaign only in its final stages, depriving the party of crucial momentum.

In contrast, the Congress ran a highly disciplined, well-coordinated campaign across all 15 wards. Much of the credit goes to local MLA Ashish Butail, who spearheaded the grassroots strategy and maintained close contact with residents. The Congress campaign also received a major boost from Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, whose intensive two-day tour and public meetings across all wards galvanised the party cadre.

Ultimately, the election serves as a strong endorsement of Congress’s cohesion and a stark reminder to the BJP that internal unity and timely planning remain indispensable for electoral success.
