In Sagnam ward, residents boycotted the election on local issues. The BJP managed to win three seats, while two seats were captured by Independent candidates, reflecting a closely contested electoral battle across the tribal district. However, these elections were not held on party symbols, but the BJP announced its official party candidates for zila parishad elections, while the Congress refrained to do so.

The results are being viewed as a morale booster for the Congress in the district, where the party succeeded in securing the highest number of seats despite stiff competition from the BJP and Independent candidates.

Among the key victories for the Congress supported candidates are, Suresh Kumar won the Warpa zila parishad seat by securing 603 votes against Ratan Lal’s 270 votes. In Keylong ward, Congress supported candidate Shashi Kiran registered a narrow victory, polling 562 votes and defeating Sunita by just 11 votes. Sonal Bodh Thakur secured a comfortable win from Sissu ward with 810 votes against Sanjeev Kumar’s 462 votes, while Ram Singh emerged victorious from Kolong ward by securing 703 votes and defeating Chhering Samphel, who garnered 486 votes.

The BJP’s victories came from Udaipur, Losar and Kaza wards. In Udaipur, BJP supported Rub Dae alias Rupa secured a narrow victory with 1,051 votes, defeating Mani Devi by a margin of just 14 votes. In Losar ward, Thuktan Dolma won with 1,199 votes against Padma Dikit’s 945 votes, while Thile Dichen secured the Kaza seat with 860 votes, defeating Chhering Gatuk, who polled 539 votes.

Independent candidates also made their presence felt in the elections. In Trilokinath ward, Independent candidate Ranjeet, secured a convincing victory with 1,166 votes, defeating Budhi Chand, who received 672 votes. In Jahlama ward, Independent candidate Punam Devi won by polling 534 votes against Anita’s 419 votes.

Reacting to the results, district Congress president Dorje Larje and Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana congratulated the winning Congress candidates and thanked voters for reposing faith in the party. They described the outcome as a reflection of public support for the Congress policies and leadership in the district.

On the other hand, BJP district president Rigzin Samphel Heyreppa said the party had put up a strong fight in the elections and succeeded in winning three seats despite tough contests in several constituencies. He expressed confidence that the BJP would continue to strengthen its organisational base in the district.
