Butail, while addressing party workers and supporters here on Thursday, said that the Congress-led Municipal Corporation had undertaken significant development works during its tenure and the party was hopeful that voters would acknowledge its performance by supporting it in the upcoming elections. He added that development carried out in all 15 wards would become the party’s biggest strength during the election campaign.
The MLA said that the Congress-dominated civic body had focused on improving civic amenities, strengthening infrastructure and resolving day-to-day public grievances. He added that works relating to roads, sanitation, drinking water supply, street lighting and beautification projects had been taken up in different parts of the city. He claimed that the party had worked with sincerity to meet the expectations of the residents and ensure balanced development in all wards.
Butail said that the people of Palampur were satisfied with the functioning of the Congress-led civic body and would once again repose faith in the party. He added that development was the central agenda of the Congress and the politics of progress would continue to guide the party’s campaign.
He said that the Congress would contest the elections in a united and organised manner. The process of selecting candidates for all 15 wards was currently underway and the party leadership was holding consultations with local workers and senior leaders before finalising names. Sources in the party said that emphasis was being laid on selecting candidates with a clean image and strong connect with the electorate.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also accelerated poll preparations and is expected to field candidates in all wards. BJP spokesman Trilok Kapoor said that party leaders had started holding meetings and outreach programmes with an aim to challenge the Congress in the civic body elections.
The Palampur Municipal Corporation has remained politically significant due to the city’s growing urban profile and expanding civic needs. Issues such as traffic congestion, parking shortage, sanitation, drainage, and planned development are expected to dominate the election campaign.
As the battle for the control of the Municipal Corporation begins, all eyes are now on the announcement of candidates and ward-level strategies, which are likely to shape the outcome of the upcoming civic elections.
