The 22-day workshop was helmed by the association’s president and celebrated theatre artiste, Kehar Singh Thakur. A total of 25 children participated in the intensive programme, which culminated in the creation and performance of a comedy short play titled “Nadi mein Aag”. The young participants staged the play in the school courtyard in front of fellow students and teachers, delivering such a lively performance that the audience was left laughing heartily.
The play tells the story of a proud prince who sets out on a journey across the kingdom. Along the way, he encounters a jackal and boasts about his royal lineage. However, when an oil presser later claims the prince’s horse as his own, the dispute is taken to the village council.
The village chief demands a witness, and ironically, it is the jackal, whom the prince had previously mocked, who ultimately provides the testimony that saves the prince’s horse. Through this turn of events, the prince’s arrogance is humbled.
Principal Prakash praised the talent of the participating students and thanked Kehar Singh Thakur and the Active Monal Cultural Association for organising the workshop at the school. The event was also graced by the presence of retired teacher Shyam Sunder Mahant, a well-known folk dancer and stage anchor, who attended as a special guest.
The Active Monal Cultural Association conducts such free theatre workshops in nearby government schools every year, aiming to bring the transformative power of theatre to children who may otherwise have limited access to performing arts education. This year’s programme continues to uphold that mission.
