Chamba marks World Immunisation Week, holds district-level awareness programme

The event was jointly organised by the Health and Family Welfare Department and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba, as part of the week-long campaign being observed from April 24 to 30.

The programme aimed to spread awareness about the importance of vaccination and strengthen routine immunisation services in the district. Final-year medical students of the college actively participated in the event.

Chamba Chief Medical Officer Dr Jalam Bhardwaj said vaccination was one of the most effective and safe ways to prevent infectious diseases. He stressed that timely immunisation of children, pregnant women and other target groups was a collective responsibility. He urged parents to ensure that their children received all vaccines as per schedule to protect them from serious illnesses.

Principal of the medical college, Dr Pankaj Gupta, said immunisation was a crucial component of public health services and played a vital role in building a healthy and disease-free society. He added that the medical college and health departments were working in coordination to further strengthen immunisation services in the district.

During the programme, health experts shared detailed information on the benefits of vaccines and the schedule of immunisation. Special emphasis was laid on dispelling myths and misconceptions associated with vaccination.

Health officials, medical specialists and staff members from various departments participated in the event and reaffirmed their commitment to making the immunisation campaign successful.

Among those present were District Health Officer Dr Kavita Mahajan, Medical Superintendent Dr Pradeep, orthopaedics specialist Dr Manik Sehgal, paediatrics expert Dr Vijay Kumar, physiology expert Dr Ranjeet Kaur, microbiology expert Dr Shridhar, biochemistry expert Dr Javed Mula and paediatric specialist Dr Isha.
