The accused has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar (35), a resident of Bashona village in Bhuntar tehsil of Kullu district.
Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said the accused had allegedly destroyed CCTV footage and a hard disk that were considered key evidence in a case related to the seizure of LSD on March 10.
The SSP said Shimla police had earlier arrested Sandeep Sharma, a resident of Punjab, and Priya, a resident of Sirmaur district, from New Shimla with 562 LSD stamps weighing 11.57 grams. Following the seizure, a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, was registered and investigation initiated.
“Police are carrying out an intensive, scientific and evidence-based investigation against the accused, the narcotics trafficking network and every individual connected with it,” the SSP said.
The investigation later led to the arrest of Naviel Harrison, a resident of Calicut, Kerala, from Gurugram in Haryana, who was identified as the main supplier of the contraband.
Further investigation revealed the alleged involvement of four members of the Special Task Force (STF) of the state police, who had already been suspended and arrested on March 19. Police found that the four STF personnel had allegedly received the LSD consignment from Harrison at the Sea Rock Hotel.
To verify the sequence of events, police had seized the DVR and hard disk from the hotel premises and sent them for forensic examination. However, investigators allegedly found that the footage and data stored in the hard disk had already been deleted by Sanjeev Kumar in collusion with other accused persons.
The SSP said further investigation was underway and police were probing the involvement of more individuals linked to the narcotics racket.
