Candidates intensify campaign in Nurpur, engage in poster war

Most Congress-supported candidates have largely avoided displaying photographs of senior party leaders in campaign materials. Except for the photos of the candidates and former council president late RK Mahajan, posters with the pictures of prominent Congress leaders are mostly absent. Instead, the Congress-backed nominees are focusing on development works carried out during the tenure of the previous Congress-supported municipal council headed by philanthropist RK Mahajan. During public outreach, the candidates sought votes on the promise of providing improved civic amenities and a “big change” in urban development if the Congress-backed candidates were elected.

In contrast, the BJP-supported candidates under the leadership of local MLA Ranbir Singh Nikka are running an organised campaign featuring the photographs and names of national, state and local BJP leaders on posters and hoardings. The BJP’s publicity campaign gained momentum over the past several days with campaign material visible in every major locality of the town.

Nikka accompanied party candidates during door-to-door visits and appealed to the voters to support them. He assured local residents that if the BJP-backed candidates formed the majority in the council for the second consecutive term, efforts would be accelerated to improve civic infrastructure, including the installation of borewells in every municipal ward to tackle water scarcity.
