BJP to launch drive against Cong regime ahead of Himachal urban body poll

The strategy was finalised at a key meeting of the BJP State Core Group and office-bearers held under the leadership of state president Rajeev Bindal. Senior leaders, including state in-charge Shrikant Sharma, co-incharge Sanjay Tandon, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, MPs Suresh Kashyap and Sikander Kumar, along with Sanjeev Katwal and Payal Vaidya, attended the meeting.

Deliberations focused on strengthening booth-level mobilisation, intensifying outreach programmes and building a narrative around governance issues. The party resolved to channel what it described as growing public dissatisfaction into a mass movement through protests and grassroots engagement.

Shrikant Sharma launched a sharp attack on the ruling Congress, alleging it had “lost public trust” and was relying on “false promises and political illusions” to stay afloat. He claimed that voters across Himachal Pradesh were ready to reject the government, asserting that BJP cadres were “experienced, committed and battle-ready” for the electoral contest.

Sanjay Tandon emphasised the party’s organisational strength, describing its disciplined cadre base as BJP’s biggest advantage. Jai Ram Thakur echoed the criticism, stating that the government had failed on multiple fronts and was politically isolated.

Bindal underlined that the BJP would systematically expose the government’s shortcomings and push for accountability, positioning the elections as a referendum on governance.
