Addressing a BJP workers’ meeting at the Community Hall in Dharamsala, Thakur claimed that the Congress was “afraid of elections” and hesitant to face the public mandate. He said Kangra district has always remained a priority for the BJP and highlighted the Centre’s contribution to the development of Dharamsala Smart City, stating that crores of rupees had been provided for infrastructure and urban projects.
Thakur alleged that the Congress government was “neck deep in corruption” and surviving on false announcements while pushing the state towards bankruptcy. Referring to the government’s repeated claim that the “Khazana khali hai” (treasury is empty), he said it had failed to pay bus drivers, employees and pensioners on time.
He further claimed that despite receiving substantial Revenue Deficit Grants from the Centre, the state government had taken loans worth nearly Rs 40,000 crore, which, he alleged, were wasted on corruption and unfulfilled promises.
Raising concerns over infrastructure, Thakur termed the condition of roads in the state as “utterly shameful”. He said only roads funded by the Centre under schemes such as PMGSY, National Highways and CRF were being properly constructed, while the state PWD had failed to maintain roads and clear contractors’ dues.
