The event drew an overwhelming response, with more than 650 ex-servicemen of Assam Rifles, their dependents and widows of martyrs participating. Officers from the Directorate General of Assam Rifles visited Palampur to directly interact with veterans, hear their concerns and review welfare-related issues.
The outreach was organised to strengthen communication between the organisation and its veterans, while ensuring quicker resolution of matters related to pensions, medical facilities, family welfare benefits, documentation and other service-related concerns.
During the interaction, ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and dependents raised several grievances, including long-pending issues relating to pension anomalies, healthcare support and administrative matters.
Lieutenant General Lakhera heard the issues and assured participants that all genuine grievances would be taken up on priority. He said the organisation remained deeply concerned about the welfare of those who had served the nation with dedication, courage and sacrifice.
He added that every possible effort would be made to resolve pending issues at the earliest. Matters requiring higher-level intervention or policy decisions, he said, would be forwarded to the Directorate General for necessary consideration and action.
The programme was organised under the aegis of ARESA Kangra, which has been working for the welfare of Assam Rifles veterans and their families in Kangra and adjoining areas. The association played a key role in coordinating the event and ensuring participation of veterans from across the region.
Participants described the programme as meaningful and beneficial, saying such interactions provide an important platform for retired personnel to engage directly with senior officers and seek redressal of their concerns.
Assam Rifles, one of India’s oldest paramilitary forces, continues to play a key role in border management and security in the North-East, while maintaining close ties with its veterans across the country.
