Kashyap said, “The orders will be applicable to all persons holding valid arms licences issued under the Arms Act, 1959, and the 2016 rules. Any violation of the orders will be punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.”

He said that it was necessary to take immediate preventive measures to maintain peace, order as well as ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in Shimla district. He added that the orders would remain in force till the elections were completed.

However, the orders would not be applicable to the personnel of the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, police, Home Guards or other persons assigned the job of maintaining law and order.
