Under the ITMS initiative, AI-enabled surveillance cameras are being used to identify offences such as over-speeding, rash driving, drunken driving, riding without helmets, triple riding and red-light violations.

Director General of Police Ashok Tewari said the technology-based system has significantly improved transparency, accountability and efficiency in traffic law enforcement while reducing manual interference.

He added that the police have also inducted a large fleet of modern vehicles equipped with advanced road safety equipment to strengthen accident prevention and emergency response capabilities across the state.

According to the DGP, integrated emergency response mechanisms have considerably reduced response time to accident and incident sites, helping save lives during emergencies and road mishaps.

He further said that the state police have earned national-level appreciation for their work in road safety management, digital policing, public service delivery, passport verification and action against drug trafficking and organised crime.

Despite these efforts, road accidents continue to remain a major concern in Himachal Pradesh. Between January 1 and March 31, the state recorded 539 road accidents. Mandi emerged as the most accident-prone district with 85 accidents, the highest in the state.
