Aero sports banned in Palampur, Baijnath ahead of President Murmu’s visit

Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa issued orders in this regard on Tuesday under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, enforcing a complete restriction on activities such as paragliding, drone flying, hot air ballooning and other aerial operations.

The ban will remain in force from 8 am to 1 pm on the day of the visit. According to the administration, the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure security and maintain law and order during the high-profile visit. A large number of ministers, senior officials and other dignitaries are expected to attend, necessitating heightened security arrangements.

The DC said unrestricted aerial activity during such events could pose security risks, making it essential to regulate airspace over the region. The administration has urged all aero sports operators and individuals to strictly comply with the order to avoid legal action.

However, security agencies, including the district police and other authorised units, will be permitted to use drones and aerial surveillance equipment, subject to prior intimation to the district administration through the Superintendent of Police, Kangra.

The DC said the temporary curbs are part of standard security protocols during VVIP visits and are aimed at ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the President’s programme.
