Farmers to get major relief under new Cabinet decisions: Himachal minister Dharmani

Addressing a public gathering at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district, Dharmani said the recent Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu approved an agricultural loan interest subvention scheme for farmers whose land is at risk of auction.Under the scheme, the state government will bear 50 per cent of the interest liability on agricultural loans of up to Rs 3 lakh for eligible farmers. He said the decision would benefit 6,356 farmers across Himachal.The minister also highlighted the approval of the fourth phase of the Rajiv Gandhi Self-Employment Start-up Scheme. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive a 50 per cent subsidy for purchasing e-buses and a 30 per cent subsidy for diesel buses.(He said the initiative would promote self-employment opportunities and strengthen public transport services in the state.Dharmani said the government has taken several measures to encourage natural farming and improve farmers’ incomes. The minimum support price (MSP) for naturally grown wheat has been increased from Rs 60 per kg to Rs 80 per kg, while the MSP for maize has been raised from Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg.Similarly, the MSP for turmeric has been enhanced from Rs 90 to Rs 150 per kg.

He added that the state government has, for the first time, fixed an MSP of Rs 30 per kg for ginger.“These decisions have encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming practices while ensuring better economic returns through assured prices,” he said. The minister noted that hundreds of farmers in Bilaspur district are already benefiting from the MSP mechanism for naturally grown wheat.Highlighting measures for the fisheries sector, Dharmani said the government has launched the Chief Minister Fishermen Assistance Scheme to strengthen the livelihood security of fishermen.Under the scheme, a MSP has been fixed for reservoir fish, while the royalty rate on fish caught from reservoirs has been progressively reduced to one per cent. He said around 6,000 reservoir fishermen across the state have benefited from the decision.The scheme also provides a one-time financial assistance of Rs 3,500 as Samman Nidhi to fishermen during the off-season period.
