Himachal Congress expels Neeraj Bharti for 6 years, warns leaders against public dissent

The decision was taken at the first meeting of the State Disciplinary Committee held in Shimla under the chairmanship of Theog MLA and former Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kuldeep Rathore. The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan and committee members Ashish Butail, Hardeep Bawa, Bhawani Pathania and Anuradha Rana.Bharti, who was serving as the vice-president of the Pradesh Congress Committee, had recently found himself at the centre of a controversy following a verbal duel with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The party had issued him a show-cause notice over his remarks, after which he announced his resignation from all party posts. However, the disciplinary committee proceeded with action and decided to expel him from the Congress for six years. The committee also adopted a tough stand against public airing of grievances by party leaders and office-bearers.

It directed all those associated with the organisation to refrain from making statements in the media or on social media that could harm the party’s image, warning that violations would invite strict disciplinary action.Addressing the media after the meeting, Rathore said the committee had unanimously resolved that no party office-bearer or functionary should make public statements that could damage the Congress. He said any grievances related to the government, party organisation or individual leaders should be brought before the state Congress president or the disciplinary committee instead of being aired in public. “Whether any office-bearer has a complaint against the government or the organisation, it should be raised within the party forum. Going to the media with such issues will be treated as an act of indiscipline and strict action will follow,” Rathore said.He added that if party leaders, workers or office-bearers have differences with one another, such matters should be resolved internally rather than through media statements or social media posts.
