In a remarkable academic achievement, 32 students from Himachal Pradesh government schools have cleared the JEE Main examination this year, while six have successfully qualified JEE Advanced, underscoring the growing impact of structured state support for competitive exam preparation.
Much of this success has been attributed to the ‘Super-100’ initiative under Samagra Shiksha, which provides free, high-quality coaching to meritorious students from government schools aspiring for national-level examinations such as JEE and NEET. The programme aims to empower talented students from economically weaker backgrounds to compete on equal footing with their peers from private institutions.
Under the programme, selected students are provided with subject-specific coaching, study material, regular assessments, and specialised sessions designed to strengthen both academic understanding and exam temperament. Officials said the initiative has helped bridge the gap between financial constraints and access to quality coaching.
Sonia Sharma, State Coordinator of Samagra Shiksha, said students receive structured academic support along with mentorship and exam-focused training. She added that since 2021, a total of 76 students have qualified the JEE examinations through the initiative.
Students are selected through a state-level examination conducted by Samagra Shiksha. In the selection test held in September 2025, as many as 5,193 science-stream students from 850 government schools participated, out of which 200 were selected for the programme.
The selected candidates receive live interactive classes, weekly and monthly tests, printed study material, mentorship support, and intensive crash courses. Two residential boot camps were also organised in October 2025 and January 2026, providing students with face-to-face guidance from expert teachers.
Rajesh Sharma, Director of Samagra Shiksha, said the programme has emerged as a transformative platform for students who otherwise cannot afford expensive private coaching. He said the success of students reflects the potential of government school education when combined with structured support.
“The success proves that students from government schools are equally capable of reaching the country’s top engineering institutions,” he said, adding that ‘Super-100’ is not merely a coaching programme but a bridge between talent and opportunity.
