UNESCO-Himachal edu project completes 1st yr

The meeting was attended by Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, Samagra Shiksha director Rajesh Sharma, director of School Education Ashish Kohli, additional director (Sports) Hitesh Azad, UNESCO South Asia Education Head Joyce Poan, along with officials from the Education Department and Samagra Shiksha, teachers and representatives of various organisations. UNESCO also released a report highlighting the achievements of the programme during its first year.

Kanwar said the three pillars of the FUTURES programme—competency-based education, value education through sports and green education—were playing a significant role in making education more holistic, relevant and future-oriented. He said while the first phase of the programme has been implemented in PM SHRI schools, its practices will be expanded to more schools across the state.

Samagra Shiksha director Rajesh Sharma said Himachal’s collaboration with the UNESCO had helped bring globally recognised educational concepts and best practices into the local education system.
