Digital Census: Residents encouraged to self-enumerate before survey phase

Highlighting the new initiative, the DC said citizens have been provided the facility of self-enumeration, enabling them to submit their information online from the comfort of their homes between June 1 and June 15.

Residents can log in to the self-enumeration portal and enter details of themselves and their family members. Upon completion of the process, a self-enumeration ID will be generated, which must be shared with the enumerator during the subsequent field verification process.

Sharma said the census serves as a cornerstone of democratic governance, providing crucial data that forms the basis for policymaking, development planning and welfare schemes at both the national and state levels.

He noted that census data plays an important role in sectors such as housing, education, healthcare, employment, resource allocation and urban planning.

The DC said the first phase of Census 2027 in Himachal will be conducted from June 16 to July 15 through door-to-door visits by enumerators.

During this phase, officials will collect information through a mobile application based on 33 notified questions covering details such as the name of the head of the household, housing conditions, amenities and assets available to the family.

Sharma assured citizens that all information collected during the exercise would remain strictly confidential and would be used only for official census purposes.

He appealed to residents to provide complete and accurate information and encourage family members and neighbours to cooperate with enumerators.

“All citizens of Kullu district should contribute to making this exercise successful so that public participation can be ensured in building a strong, inclusive and developed state,” he said.
