Addressing a press conference here, Bairwa said for the first time, the Census had introduced a self-enumeration facility, allowing residents to enter details about their homes online before enumerators visit them. He said the initiative was aimed at making the Census process more convenient and efficient, particularly for people with busy schedules.
Bairwa said around 4,700 house-listing blocks had been created in Kangra district, and enumerators would subsequently visit every household to verify the information submitted online and complete the enumeration process. The house-listing operation would be followed by the population enumeration (PE) phase. In Multhan, a snow-bound area, personal enumeration would be conducted in September, while the remaining parts of the district would be covered in February next year.
He said residents could access the self-enumeration portal at se.census.gov.in using their mobile number and OTP authentication. After selecting the state and entering basic location details, users could pinpoint their house on a digital map and complete the online questionnaire. Upon submission, an 11-digit alphanumeric self-enumeration ID would be generated and sent via SMS and email.
“When the enumerator visits the household, residents only need to provide the self-enumeration ID. The enumerator will verify the information, make necessary corrections if any, and submit the final record,” Bairwa said.
He said the current phase focused solely on house-listing details such as the type of dwelling, construction materials and household amenities. Personal information, including names, ages and educational details of family members, would be collected during the population enumeration phase.
The DC assured residents that all information provided during the census was protected by law and remained strictly confidential.
