The CM completed his own self-enumeration through the online portal for the Census-2027 self-enumeration drive. Himachal Director of Census Operations Deep Shikha Sharma along with senior departmental officers briefed him about the features and procedures of the digital census process.
Sukhu said the census serves as the backbone of democratic governance and development by providing crucial information on population, family conditions, housing, resources and access to public services.
He said census data forms the basis for development planning and the formulation of welfare-oriented policies and programmes.
The CM said Census 2027 in Himachal would be conducted in two phases. The first phase, comprising House Listing and Housing Census, will be carried out from June 16 to July 15, while the second phase will focus on population enumeration.
He said the exercise would be conducted entirely in digital mode, with enumerators and supervisors using mobile devices for data collection relating to houses and households.
Sukhu said population enumeration in the snow-bound areas of the state would be undertaken from September 11 to 30. In the remaining parts of Himachal, the exercise would be conducted from February 9 to 28, 2027.
Urging citizens to cooperate fully, he appealed to residents to provide complete and accurate information to enumerators, supervisors and other census officials to ensure the successful conduct of the nationally significant exercise.
