Shaurya Chakra awardee Amit Singh Rana dies in Himachal road accident

Rana, 32, was returning home after meeting a friend when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn at Laharu in the Jwalamukhi assembly constituency around 11 pm on Monday and fell into the gorge, they said.

Residents immediately launched a rescue effort and, after considerable difficulty, managed to retrieve him from the ravine around midnight. He was rushed to Khandian Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The final rites of the brave soldier were performed with full military honours in his native village, Laharu, on Tuesday. Jwalamukhi MLA Sanjay Ratna expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and paid tribute to Rana’s service to the nation.

Rana is survived by his parents, wife, four-year-old son, and two sisters. His untimely death has left the entire region in shock and mourning.

He was awarded the prestigious Shaurya Chakra for displaying exceptional courage during counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. As part of Operation Rakshak in 2018, he participated in several high-risk missions against terrorist hideouts under extremely challenging conditions.

His bravery, determination, and professional excellence in difficult terrain and dense forest areas earned him widespread recognition and one of the country’s highest peacetime gallantry awards.
