Acting on targeted intelligence, a police team tracked Singh to his native village of Bagga in Amritsar district on Sunday. Preliminary investigations indicate that Singh, who had been living in Italy, recently returned to India. Following the shooting, he went into hiding and was actively organising his escape back abroad when the police intercepted him.
The incident unfolded around 6 pm on Saturday following a heated altercation between a group of tourists and locals at the popular hotel. The dispute escalated violently when one of the tourists pulled out a pistol and opened fire. A local youth sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, triggering widespread panic in the area.
The police response was immediate. The authorities initially detained four other suspects from Punjab, including Manpreet Singh (29), Aman Randhawa (22), Karandeep Singh (22), and Sukhmandeep Singh (17).
While the four were taken into custody, special police teams deployed a mix of technical surveillance and human intelligence networks to launch a manhunt for the remaining suspect.
Kullu Superintendent of Police (SP) Madan Lal Kaushal confirmed the recovery of the firearm used in the assault, noting it appeared to be unlicensed.
“We are currently interrogating the accused to ascertain the source of the weapon and ammunition,” SP Kaushal stated.
Tamanpreet Singh was produced in a local court today and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
