Heavy rain lashes Himachal amid orange, yellow alerts; temperatures drop

As a result, temperatures across the state dropped by 2°C to 5°C, providing relief from the scorching heat witnessed over the past few days.

According to the Centre, an orange warning has been issued for Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Chamba districts, with heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds likely at isolated places in these regions.

Similarly, a yellow warning has been issued for Shimla and adjoining areas, with light to moderate rain expected throughout the day.

Pandoh in Mandi district recorded 37.4 mm of rain, the highest in the state. Kangra received 20.5 mm, Sundernagar 20.3 mm, Una 16.2 mm and Shimla 5.6 mm of rain. Hailstorms were also reported in Shimla, Kotkhai and Chopal areas over the past 24 hours.

The minimum temperature in Shimla stood at 11.5°C, Dharamsala 17.8°C, Manali 10.8°C, Solan 14°C, Kangra 17°C, Bilaspur 19°C, Nahan 17°C, Kufri 8.4°C, Bhuntar 15.1°C, Paonta Sahib 23°C, Kalpa 6.2°C and Keylong 5.8°C.

With a minimum temperature of 3.9°C, Kukumseri village in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state.
