The campaign was part of the CPRI’s initiative to educate farmers about the balanced use of fertilisers to minimise soil damage. The visiting team included experts from agricultural and social science backgrounds, who interacted directly with farmers to address their concerns and share practical knowledge.

Brajesh Singh, Director, ICAR-CPRI, Shimla, said that it was very important to ensure soil testing before applying fertilisers, maintaining the correct proportion of essential nutrients and reducing the excessive use of chemical fertilisers.

Anil Kumar Choudhary, Principal Scientist, explained the different types of fertilisers, including chemical, organic and biofertilisers, and highlighted their roles in crop growth. He encouraged the farmers to adopt organic manures and biofertilisers such as compost, vermicompost and beneficial bacteria to maintain soil health.

Alok Kumar, Head of Social Sciences, stressed the long-term benefits of integrated nutrient management, which combines organic and inorganic sources to enhance soil fertility, improve yield and increase farmers’ income. The participants were urged to adopt site-specific nutrient management practices and apply fertilisers at appropriate stages of crop growth.

Dalamu, another Senior Scientist, highlighted the different potato varieties beneficial for Dehana gram panchayat. Avinash Ray, Senior Scientist, also discussed essential plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and micronutrients required for optimal plant development.
