Both Congress and BJP have fielded their candidates in all 15 wards and are making concerted efforts to secure public support. While the Congress is aiming to retain the control of the Municipal Corporation, the BJP is confident of making significant gains and capturing the civic body.
Political activities in the city have intensified and the candidates are reaching out to voters, highlighting local issues such as sanitation, road infrastructure, water supply and waste management. Door-to-door campaigning has picked up and party workers and supporters are actively engaging with local residents.
Meanwhile, election officials said that the scrutiny of the nomination papers would be done tomorrow, as per the schedule, and later the final list of eligible candidates would be released. The last date for the withdrawal of nominations is May 4.
Civic issues are expected to play a crucial role in deciding the election outcome. As a large number of candidates are in the fray, the contest is likely to be tough in most of the wards.
