5 including Punjab based drug peddler arrested for involvement in drug trade in Shimla

In the first case, police arrested Sukh Pal Singh (26), resident of Balampatti Maniana village in Sangrur district, Punjab. His involvement in drug peddling activities was uncovered after the district police had arrested Gurjeet Singh (24), resident of Panchkula, Haryana, with 9.31 grams of heroin from Rampur in Shimla district on April 1.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh said investigation revealed that Sukh Pal was in contact with Gurjeet Singh and they both had financial transactions with each other as well.

He also said Sukh Pal has been presented in the local court from where he has been sent on a police remand till April 25.

In another case, police arrested three individuals with 3.58 grams of heroin in Rohru. The accused have been identified as Virender Singh (31), resident of Dodra village, Akshay Kumar (32), resident of Pandar village and Krishan Kant (32), also from Dodra village.

According to police, it received a tip-off that several individuals were present in Samoli area in Rohru, following which a police team was dispatched and the accused were arrested with the contraband from their room.

A case under section 21 and 29 of NDPS act was registered against them and an investigation was initiated.

In the third case, the district police arrested a habitual offender under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking NDPS act (PIT NDPS) from Basantpur, about 12 kilometers away from Shimla.

The accused has been identified as Khemraj alias Sunny Walia (40), resident of Basantpur.

According to police, the accused has been involved in drug peddling activities for a very long time and multiple cases under the NDPS act have already been registered against him.

“Apart from this, he was also booked for unauthorised entry into the house, assault, damage to property and criminal intimidation in Shimla on May 9, 2015. Keeping in view of his continuous involvement in drug trafficking, he was arrested by the police and has now been lodged in Model Central Jail, Kanda’ said the SSP.
