According to police officials, the incident came to light after Ghatta police post received information about a road accident. Post incharge Atul Raina and his team immediately proceeded to the location to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, the officials found a badly damaged vehicle (registration number HP10A-0376), which had reportedly been travelling from the Chauntra side before crashing into a roadside safety barrier. The force of the collision shattered the windscreen and side windows. However, the absence of the driver raised suspicions about the nature of the cargo in the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of liquor believed to be intended for illegal distribution. The seized consignment included multiple brands of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), country liquor and beer.
Police recovered six cases of Royal Stag (72 bottles), two cases of McDowell’s (24 bottles), 11 cases of Una No. 1 country liquor (132 bottles), two cases of Tuborg beer (23 bottles, including one opened case), and two cases of Kingfisher beer (24 bottles). In total, 275 bottles and 23 cases were seized.
The vehicle has been impounded and a case registered against an unidentified driver under relevant provisions of the Excise Act and the Motor Vehicles Act. Efforts are under way to trace the suspect and determine the origin and intended destination of the consignment.
Station House Officer of Jogindernagar, Sakini Kapoor, said police would continue their crackdown on illegal liquor trade and smuggling in the region. She warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in unlawful activities.
The seizure is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb illicit liquor and narcotics trafficking in the Jogindernagar area. Further investigations are underway.
