2 killed as car plunges into gorge near Chintpurni shrine

According to police, the accident occurred around 3.30 pm when the driver failed to negotiate a turn, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall nearly 180 feet into the valley below. The car caught fire immediately after impact.

Preliminary reports indicate that one of the occupants was thrown out of the vehicle, while the other remained trapped inside and was charred to death.

Confirming the incident, Una Superintendent of Police Sachin Hiremath said two persons had died in the mishap. The identities of the deceased were yet to be ascertained, though the vehicle bore a Ludhiana registration number.

Videos of the incident, captured by locals, circulated widely on social media, showing the car losing control while descending from the Bharwain side before plunging into the gorge and catching fire.

Officials said the exact number of occupants in the vehicle could not be immediately confirmed. While some locals claimed that four persons were travelling in the car and were returning to Punjab after visiting the shrine, police said there was no official confirmation of this.

Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and launched search and rescue operations. Further investigation is underway.
