Addressing media persons here on Monday, Kangra Superintendent of Police Ashok Rattan said the seizure was made on April 27 after a special police team acted on specific intelligence inputs.
According to police, the accused were travelling in an Alto car, when they were intercepted near the cremation ground on the Banuri–Panchrukhi link road.
The arrested persons were identified as Gopal (24) and Surender Kumar (37) and they belonged to Kullu district.
The SP said the police team carried out the search after completing all legal formalities and in the presence of independent witnesses. During the search of the vehicle, officials seized 4.40 kg of charas packed in a bag.
Police also found another vehicle, Maruti taxi, parked nearby. Both vehicles have been taken into custody for further investigation.
The two accused were arrested on the spot and a case has been registered at Panchrukhi police station under, dated April 27, under Sections 20 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Ashok Rattan said the district police had intensified the anti-drug drive through regular patrolling, naka checking and intelligence-based operations.
He added that stern action would continue against all those involved in narcotics trafficking and other unlawful activities.
The seizure is being seen as one of the major recent recoveries in Kangra district as law enforcement agencies step up efforts to curb the drug menace in Himachal Pradesh.
The SP also appealed to the public to share information regarding drug peddlers and smugglers, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
