Upon reaching the location, authorities discovered that the car had plunged into the gorge, making rescue operations extremely challenging.
With the assistance of fire service personnel and area residents, a search operation was launched nearly 500 m down the steep hillside. After an intensive effort, the bodies of the two men were recovered from the gorge.
The deceased have been identified as Sunil Kumar (22) and Pawan Kumar (19), residents of Karsog tehsil in the district. Their untimely deaths have left their families, and the entire area, in mourning. The police have registered a case at the Karsog police station under sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in this regard.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident may have occurred due to loss of vehicular control, though the exact cause is yet to be determined.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Karsog Civil Hospital, where post-mortem examinations were conducted. Following legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the families for last rites.
Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said further investigation was underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
