For the 36 wards of the Zila Parishad, a total of 210 nomination papers were filed over the three days, including 114 submitted on the last day. As many as 54 and 42 nominations were received on the first and second day of the process, respectively.
In the elections to 267 seats of members of 14 panchayat samitis, a total of 1,174 nomination papers were filed. On the final day, 574 candidates submitted their nominations, compared to 235 on the first day and 365 papers on the second day.
For 577 posts of gram panchayat pradhan, the district administration received 1,319 nominations on the final day. As many as 891 nominations were filed on May 7 and 834 on May 8. Similarly, for the posts of up-pradhan, 1,496 nominations were filed on the final day, while 706 and 767 nominations were received on the first two days.
The highest number of nominations were recorded for the 3,311 posts of ward member in gram panchayats. A total of 7,251 nomination papers were filed in this category (1,934 on the first day, 2,214 on the second day and 3,103 on the final day).
The Deputy Commissioner said that the scrutiny of the nomination papers was done 10 am onwards on Tuesday. The candidates would be allowed to withdraw their nominations on May 14 and 15 and election symbols would be allotted after 3 pm on May 15.
Voting for the posts of gram panchayat pradhan, up-pradhan and ward members would be conducted on May 26, 28 and 30. The counting of votes would begin immediately after polling at the gram panchayats. Meanwhile, the counting of votes for the elections to the Zila Parishad and panchayat samiti members would commence on May 31 at 9 am.
