“If the state government does not withdraw the decision to shift the gynaecology OPD, we will hold a massive protest outside the IGMC on April 30. Thereafter, we will protest outside the Secretariat as well,” said Falma Chauhan, state president of the AIDWA.
Falma slammed the government for shifting the gynaecology OPD in a hurry from a hospital that had been rendering healthcare services to women for the past 102 years. She said that the idea of separating gynaecology and obstetrics was not practical. “They are part of one department and there must be a reason why this hospital has been providing both facilities under one roof for so many years,” she added.
She refuted the government’s argument that the equipment at the Kamla Nehru Hospital was old as the reason for shifting the OPD. She said that the machines were there but licences were not given. “If the government can’t give anything to women, it should at least not take away the existing facilities,” she added.
Falma said that they would intensify the protest in the coming days if the decision to shift the gynaecology OPD was not withdrawn.
