The visit is being seen as a moment of pride and honour for the university, its students and their families.
Established in 1978 following a visit by and encouragement of then President Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the university is now preparing to host a sitting President at its convocation for the first time.
The announcement has generated widespread enthusiasm across the state. The Non-Teaching Employees’ Union has congratulated Vice-Chancellor Ashok Panda for facilitating the visit. Union general secretary Naresh Sharma said, despite his short tenure, the Vice-Chancellor had made dedicated efforts to make the occasion possible.
He added that preparations for the convocation were progressing on war footing, with non-teaching staff working round the clock, including on holidays, to ensure the success of the event.
Degrees will be conferred on students of the 2018–2023 batches. The union acknowledged the role played by non-teaching employees in processing and preparing pending degrees.
Pertinently, convocations were postponed earlier due to the Covid pandemic.
