Details of the Reshuffle

On Wednesday, several city and urban planners were transferred on administrative grounds. The affected corporations include Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Erode, Thoothukudi, Thanjavur, Hosur, Sivakasi, and Namakkal. Municipalities such as Maraimalai Nagar, Villupuram, and Theni-Allinagaram are also part of the exercise.

A senior official stated that the transfers aim to help officials adapt to policy and administrative changes recently introduced by the state government.

Ministerial Review

Housing and Urban Development Minister P. Rajkumar reviewed the organisational structure of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), departmental administration, development projects, and regional planning initiatives. Discussions focused on the objectives and key components of comprehensive plans being prepared across the state.

The minister also examined the progress of Geographic Information System (GIS)-based master planning initiatives and matters related to the constitution of planning authorities and appointments of members to planning bodies.

Infrastructure and Approvals

The meeting reviewed infrastructure development funds, the functioning of the single-window online approval system, and the progress of the self-certification scheme for building approvals. Issues concerning hill area conservation authorities and regularisation of unapproved layouts and plots were also discussed.

Deliberations were held on regularising unauthorised educational institution buildings, according to a press release.

Appointment Orders

Earlier, the minister distributed appointment orders to three candidates selected through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission for the post of Assistant Director in the Town and Country Planning Department.
