Tamil Nadu Governor Emphasizes Entrepreneurship Over Job-Seeking in NEP 2020
Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship over job-seeking in the National Education Policy 2020. He stated that the aim of education should be to create job-givers rather than job-seekers.
Key Facts About Guru Nanak College
Guru Nanak College, where the event took place, was founded in 1971 with 450 students enrolled in three undergraduate programmes. Today, the institution has grown to 7,000 students enrolled in 28 undergraduate, nine postgraduate, eight doctoral research programmes, and over 80 skill-based and value-added certificate courses.
NEP 2020: A Decolonization Effort
The National Education Policy 2020 is the first serious attempt to decolonize education in the country, according to Governor Arlekar. He emphasized the need to reflect the learnings of the soil in education imparted in institutions, which would contribute to nation-building and achieve self-sufficiency.
At the event, Governor Arlekar distributed medals and certificates to students who topped their respective disciplines.
Present at the event were Manjit Singh Nayyar, General Secretary and Correspondent, Guru Nanak College, and Anitha Mallisetty, Controller of Examinations.
