Maharashtra Cyber Police has filed an FIR against stand-up comedians Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, and Dr. Sejal Pawar over allegedly obscene comments made during a comedy act in Gurugram. The case stems from viral clips on social media that the police say violate decency laws.
The Maharashtra Cyber Police on Thursday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against stand-up comedian Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Dr. Sejal Pawar, and others for allegedly making obscene and objectionable remarks during a stand-up act in Gurugram. The action follows the circulation of video clips on YouTube, Instagram, and other platforms that the police claim contain offensive content targeting women, consent, and deceased persons.
Key Points
- FIR filed at Nodal Cyber Police Station, Maharashtra Cyber, against Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Dr. Sejal Pawar, and others.
- Alleged obscene comments made during a stand-up act in Gurugram, later circulated on social media.
- One clip reportedly shows Jangra suggesting entitlement to physical intimacy for money spent on a date.
- Another clip allegedly features Dr. Sejal Pawar making derogatory remarks about deceased male bodies and medical cadavers.
- Summons issued to all three individuals to appear before Maharashtra Cyber Police for questioning.
According to an official from the Maharashtra Cyber Police, the investigation revealed that the content was recorded, promoted, and disseminated with the apparent objective of increasing viewership and generating financial gains through online monetisation. The official stated, “The content being widely circulated allegedly contains obscene, offensive, and objectionable remarks concerning women, consent, and deceased persons, which are against accepted societal norms and attract provisions of criminal law.”
One of the viral clips reportedly features Himanshu Jangra making remarks that suggest entitlement to physical intimacy in return for money spent during a date, thereby portraying women in a derogatory manner and trivialising issues of consent and dignity. Another clip allegedly shows Dr. Sejal Pawar making obscene and derogatory comments concerning deceased male bodies and medical cadavers used for educational purposes, which the police say is disrespectful to the dignity of the deceased.
The Maharashtra Cyber Police has issued summonses to Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, and Dr. Sejal Pawar, directing them to appear for enquiry and recording of their statements. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have warned that appropriate legal action will be taken against all persons found involved in accordance with the law.
