Key Facts

Stand-up comedian Pranit More has issued a public apology following backlash over a crowdwork clip from his show in Gurugram. The clip, which went viral, featured an interaction with an audience member named Himashu Jangra, who made a remark about '₹370 biryani' that allegedly glorified coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and summoned both individuals.

Details of the Apology

In a video posted on Instagram on June 13, 2026, Pranit More said, Many of you have likely seen the crowdwork clip that’s been circulating, and it’s brought a lot of criticism and hate my way. Looking back, I understand why people are upset, and I genuinely feel that some of that criticism is warranted. I take responsibility for my actions and want to address the concerns that have been raised. He further explained that his biggest mistake was giving the audience member a platform instead of stopping him. Because when I was doing crowd work with that individual, he made several derogatory remarks, and the audience was laughing along as well. Looking back, I believe that was my biggest mistake. I could have stopped him right there, but instead, I gave him a platform, which allowed the situation to escalate to the extent that it did. For that, I take full responsibility. To everyone who was hurt or offended because of this incident, I sincerely apologise. I also want to make it clear that I am cooperating fully with the authorities in any legal proceedings related to this matter, he added.

NCW Intervention

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to Haryana’s Director General of Police seeking swift police action and a detailed Action Taken Report. Additionally, Pranit More and Himashu Jangra have been issued notices to appear before the Commission on June 22, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Broader Controversy

The same show had earlier sparked backlash for allegedly making derogatory remarks about medical cadavers and deceased male bodies used for educational purposes. Following that controversy, Mumbai’s civic-run KEM Hospital termed the comments as ‘unacceptable’ and formed a two-member committee to probe the matter.
