Key Facts

A 23-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide at her home in Dehradun's Chandrabani area on June 16, 2026. The victim, a college topper who scored 96.7% in Class 12, left a suicide note expressing dissatisfaction with her academic progress. Police said no prior signs of depression were observed.

Details of the Incident

Circle Officer (CO) Sadar Ankit Kandari reported that the Patel Nagar police station received a call around 10:30 AM after the victim's mother found her unresponsive. The mother had called her for breakfast, and when she did not respond, the father opened the door to discover she had hanged herself.

A suicide note recovered from the scene read, “Mom and Dad, I love you,” along with remarks indicating her disappointment at not excelling further in her studies. Kandari stated, “In the note, the woman expressed affection for her father and said no one was to be blamed for her death, attributing the decision to her own perceived incompetence.”

No Warning Signs

The victim's parents told police there were no indicators of distress. She had attended a religious vigil (Jagran) with them the night before and followed her usual routine of studying late and waking up late. Kandari added, “Since she used to study late at night, she woke up late in the morning. It was a normal routine; no disturbing facts emerged regarding changes in her routine or behaviour.”

Neighbours also confirmed that she was typically occupied with studies and showed no signs of withdrawal or depression. The police investigation continues, but no foul play is suspected.
