Leopard Sightings Spark Fear in Bilaspur Villages

Residents of Kotlu and Tikri villages in Jhanduta development block, Bilaspur district, are living in fear after repeated sightings of a leopard in the area. The big cat has been spotted even during daytime, heightening anxiety among locals. Women are afraid to venture out to collect fodder for livestock, and farmers are reluctant to go to their fields for agricultural work.

Villagers Demand Immediate Action

Locals including Kirana, Anjana, Ranjoo, Manju, Devaraj, and Amar Singh have reported seeing the leopard roaming near the villages over the past few days. They expressed concern that the dense bushes during the rainy season provide ample hiding spots for the leopard, making it dangerous to work in fields or go near forests. The villagers have urged the Forest Department to take swift measures to capture the animal and ensure their safety.

Despite the proximity of Kotlu and Tikri to the Jhanduta forest range office, no concrete action had been taken until now, adding to the residents' worries.

Forest Department Response

Forest Range Officer Ashok Kumar stated that the department has received information about the leopard's presence. He assured that a cage will be set up soon to capture the leopard. He appealed to the public to avoid going alone to bushy areas during the rainy season, to keep lights on outside their homes, and to move in groups while going to fields or forests, making noise to scare away the animal. He emphasized that the department is maintaining constant vigilance for the safety of the people.
