Leopard Attack in Seraj: 26 Goats Killed in Shikawari Panchayat

In a shocking incident in the Seraj area of Mandi district, a leopard entered a domestic shed in Gram Panchayat Shikawari and killed 26 goats on the night of July 11, 2026. The attack has left the family devastated and the villagers in fear.

Details of the Incident

The leopard targeted the shed of Krishna Lal, a resident of Shikawari. When Krishna Lal went to check on his goats in the morning, he found the shed littered with mutilated carcasses. Some goats were killed inside the shed, while others were dragged into the nearby forest. Only four goats survived the attack.

According to preliminary estimates, the family has suffered a loss of approximately Rs 5 lakh. The goats were their primary source of livelihood.

Villagers Suspect Multiple Leopards

Local residents, including Sohan Lal, Nirmal Singh, and Leela Ram, expressed concern that the scale of the attack suggests the presence of more than one leopard in the area. The fear has spread among villagers, who are now worried about the safety of their children and livestock.

Panchayat Officials Demand Action

Gram Panchayat Shikawari's Pradhan Radha Devi and Up-Pradhan Pushpa Raj visited the spot and assessed the damage. They have urged the administration and the Forest Department to provide immediate relief and compensation to the affected family. They also demanded increased patrolling, installation of cages to trap the leopard, and effective measures to ensure the safety of villagers.
