On Tuesday, residents of Manikaran Valley in Kullu district staged a protest at the district headquarters over the deteriorating condition of roads in the valley. The protesters gathered at Dhalpur Maidan and marched through Dhalpur Chowk and the Police Superintendent Office before reaching the Deputy Commissioner Office.

The demonstrators raised slogans against the state government, district administration, and the Public Works Department. They submitted a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner Kullu, which was received by Additional Deputy Commissioner Surajeet Singh Rathore. The protest was led by former panchayat pradhan Vijendra Sharma, former district council member Rekha Guleria, BJP leader Narotam Thakur, social worker Shera Negi, and folk artist CM Toshi, along with members of various social organizations from the valley.

Road Conditions and Concerns

The protesters expressed concern over the condition of the Bhuntar-Manikaran main road, as well as the Manikaran-Barshaini road and roads to Tosh. They stated that the roads are not being repaired, causing problems not only for local residents but also for tourists. The poor road conditions are affecting tourism, horticulture, and agriculture in the area.

One protester said, "The road is unsafe. No crash barriers are being installed nor is it being widened. This is why accidents are happening on the road."

Ultimatum and Warning

The protesters issued a stern warning, stating that if the problems are not resolved within 25 days, a movement will be launched and a road blockade will be implemented. The memorandum was submitted on behalf of the entire population of Parvati Valley.

Administration's Response

Additional Deputy Commissioner Surajeet Singh Rathore called the superintendent of the Public Works Department and assured that the issues would be addressed through departmental coordination.
