Shimla's Gaiety Theatre Rehearsal Hall is alive with the rhythmic jingle of ankle bells as the Kathak Aavartan workshop continues for its second day. The workshop, led by internationally renowned Kathak gurus Vidyagouri Adkar and Muzaffar Mulla, is providing intensive training in the classical dance form to around 20 participants.
Workshop Details
Held from 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, the session saw participants divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups based on their proficiency. This allowed for personalized guidance from the gurus. The training covered essential aspects of Kathak including tatkar (footwork), aamad (entry), tode (rhythmic patterns), paran (compositions), layakari (tempo variations), abhinaya (expression), and stage presentation.
Participant Engagement
Participants practiced with dedication and discipline, focusing on layakari, footwork, hand gestures, and emotional expression. The gurus provided individual feedback, correcting technical errors and offering tips to enhance rhythmic precision and stage presence. Notable participants include Indu, Tamanna, Sonia, Monika, Palak, Sonika, Pihu, Vikram, Rekha, Diksha, Ekta, Aditya, Simran, Isha, Geetanjali, Vandana, Swati, and Sarvesh. Supporting artists Sahil, Nikhil Devalasia, Sakshi Sharma, Rishita Singh Kanwar, and Sonia also played key roles.
Concluding Ceremony
The workshop will conclude on Sunday with a ceremony graced by chief guest Pandit Kashmiri Lal Shirkat. Participants will be honored and will share their experiences from the workshop.
About the Gurus
Vidyagouri Adkar is an A-grade artist of Doordarshan Delhi and an empanelled artist of ICCR. She trained under gurus Pandit Rajendra Gangani and Jafar Mulla, and has performed in India and abroad. Muzaffar Mulla is a graded Doordarshan artist, choreographer, and founder of Kala Teerth Kathak Academy. He also trained under Jafar Mulla and Pandit Rajendra Gangani, representing Indian classical dance on prestigious stages worldwide.
