Key Allegations

Shivamogga: BJP MLC D.S. Arun on Friday accused the Karnataka government of misusing civic amenity (CA) sites meant for community welfare to construct Congress party offices, violating prescribed norms. Speaking at a press conference, Arun said CA sites are typically granted to cultural organisations, hospitals, and associations based on their societal contributions. However, the government has deviated from this procedure for Congress offices, approving the allocation of sites valued at ₹1 crore for only ₹5 lakh—a mere 5% of the market value.

“Properties are being transferred to party offices at a fraction of their market value. The cabinet has approved this decision. I urge the public to recognise the gravity of this matter and challenge it through public interest litigation,” Arun said.

High Court Concerns

Arun alleged that the state government proceeded with the allotment despite the Karnataka High Court expressing serious reservations about such allocations. He emphasised that the misuse of public assets for political purposes undermines transparency and fairness.

Cross-Voting Controversy

Commenting on reports of cross-voting in a recent MLC election, Arun described the practice as highly condemnable. He called on MLAs who voted against party direction to publicly account for their decision. “The MLAs should remember that they were elected on the BJP symbol. The party gave them a chance to contest, and going against the party direction is like betraying the mother,” he said. Arun further stated that if MLAs had concerns about the party’s state leadership, they should raise them through proper internal channels rather than cross-voting.
