Key Facts

In view of the monsoon season, the Himachal Pradesh Police Headquarters (PHQ) has placed Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) and disaster management units across all districts on 24-hour high alert. Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari issued a detailed advisory to all Superintendents of Police (SPs) to ensure effective relief and rescue operations, maintain law and order, and enhance surveillance in vulnerable areas.

Directives for District Police

The advisory instructs each district to identify rivers, streams, waterfalls, and landslide-prone locations within their jurisdiction. Warning boards will be installed at these spots, and additional police forces will be deployed as needed. Special attention is to be given to prevent tourists from venturing near fast-flowing water bodies for reels, photography, or stunts.

District police have been directed to coordinate closely with the Home Guard, local administration, National and State Disaster Response Forces, and local divers. In case of road blockages, floods, landslides, cloudbursts, or other emergencies, immediate rescue operations must be launched and every incident reported to the police control room without delay.

Strict Action Against Reckless Behavior

PHQ has ordered strict legal action against tourists who ignore regulations and engage in hooliganism, stunts, or filming dangerous videos near hazardous locations during the monsoon. This measure aims to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.

Information Dissemination and Coordination

District police units will use their official social media platforms and community groups to regularly share weather warnings, road closures, traffic arrangements, and alternative routes. This proactive communication is intended to keep both locals and tourists informed and avert untoward incidents.

DGP Ashok Tiwari emphasized that timely information, better coordination, and quick response can mitigate the impact of natural disasters. All districts have been instructed to remain vigilant and keep necessary resources and manpower ready to handle any emergency.

Intra-Circle Roaming Facility for Emergencies

During a natural disaster, mobile users in Himachal Pradesh will be able to use any available telecom network to make calls, thanks to the Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) facility provided by the Department of Telecommunications. Users can manually select a network from their device settings and connect to any operator whose coverage is available in the area. This ensures mobile connectivity even when the user's own network is down, facilitating communication with family and emergency services.
