Key Facts

Himachal Pradesh witnessed a significant shift in monsoon activity on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The capital city Shimla experienced heavy rainfall in the afternoon, while plains districts saw a rise in humidity after the rains subsided. The State Disaster Management Authority reported that by Saturday evening, 189 roads remained closed, 146 electrical transformers were affected, and 104 drinking water schemes were disrupted across the state.

Details of Rainfall and Impact

Shimla and Surroundings

In Shimla, heavy rain on Friday night triggered a landslide in the Sanjauli Bothwel area, endangering four houses and two shops. The landslide occurred around 4 am, causing panic among residents. In New Shimla and other parts of the city, falling debris damaged several vehicles. On Saturday, clouds gathered by 3 pm, and rain continued until 5 pm, making the weather pleasant thereafter.

Kullu District

Heavy rain late Friday night in Kullu district raised the water level of the Pin Parvati river. The river's swelling led to water entering two houses in the Shakti area, prompting the administration to evacuate them as a precaution. Additionally, over four culverts connecting Shakti, Marod, and Shugad villages were washed away due to the rain and strong currents. The district still has 51 closed roads, affecting connectivity to several rural areas.

Sirmour District

Sirmour remained one of the most affected districts, with 50 roads closed and 25 electrical transformers impacted, disrupting power supply in many areas. The rain also affected 58 drinking water and six irrigation schemes. Crops including potatoes, ginger, and oilseeds suffered damage.

Kangra District

Kangra district experienced overcast skies throughout Saturday. Dharamshala and surrounding areas witnessed dense fog in the evening, reducing visibility.

Chamba District

In Chamba, no rain occurred on Saturday, leading to high humidity throughout the day. A landslide near Bhatti Hatti on the Bharmour-Pathankot National Highway disrupted traffic for about 15 minutes before machinery cleared the route.

Hamirpur and Una

Sunshine returned to Hamirpur and Una, resulting in heat and humidity. Temperatures in Una, Mandi, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur exceeded 30°C on Saturday.
