Key Facts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for Himachal Pradesh, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts until July 17. The state continues to reel under monsoon fury, with 189 roads, 146 electricity transformers, and 104 drinking water schemes disrupted as of Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Details of the Alert

According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, heavy rain is expected on July 12 in Kangra, Mandi, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Sirmaur districts. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely in Kangra. Additionally, gusty winds reaching 30-40 km/h, thunderstorms, and lightning are predicted across many parts of the state.

The IMD has advised residents to stay away from rivers and streams, avoid unnecessary travel in landslide-prone areas, and follow administrative advisories.

Impact Across Districts

Kullu District

Kullu has been the worst-hit, with the Pin Parvati river swelling and washing away over six culverts. This has cut off several villages. In the Shakti area, water entered two houses, prompting evacuation by the administration. Currently, 51 roads remain closed in the district.

Shimla District

In the state capital, a landslide in Sanjauli's Bhotwel area has endangered four houses and two shops. Debris falling in New Shimla and other areas has also damaged vehicles. On Cart Road, a landslide caused a deodar tree to fall, blocking traffic. The Public Works Department (PWD) deployed JCB machines and workers to clear the debris and restore traffic. No casualties were reported.

Sirmaur and Other Districts

Sirmaur district has 50 closed roads, 25 affected transformers, and 58 disrupted drinking water and six irrigation schemes. Across the state, the total count of affected infrastructure stands at 189 roads, 146 transformers, and 104 water schemes.

Weather Outlook

The IMD has stated that light to moderate rain will continue across the state until July 17. However, maximum temperatures may rise by 2-6 degrees Celsius over the next four to five days, though rainfall activity will persist.

What Residents Should Know
