Key Facts

In a decisive move, the Nagar Panchayat of Bharua Sumerpur, Hamirpur, cleared encroachments from land belonging to the Irrigation Department's inspection building near the bus stand. The operation was carried out in the presence of police force following directives from the District Magistrate during a Samadhan Diwas (grievance redressal) session.

Details of the Operation

Several individuals had set up temporary shanties and structures on the Irrigation Department's land, obstructing the Nagar Panchayat's plans to construct a passenger waiting area, public toilets, and a water cooler. On Saturday, the District Magistrate, while attending the Samadhan Diwas at the local police station, instructed the Executive Officer (EO) to immediately remove the encroachments.

Acting swiftly, EO Dinesh Chandra, along with the Nagar Panchayat team and police personnel, reached the spot and cleared the illegal structures, freeing the land from encroachment.

Impact and Future Plans

The removal paves the way for the construction of public amenities that had been stalled due to the encroachment. The EO announced that a special drive to clear temporary encroachments from the market area will commence from Monday. Additionally, following the model of Hamirpur Municipal Council, plans are afoot to install railings along roadsides to prevent future encroachments.

The District Magistrate has directed the EO and the Station House Officer (SHO) to register FIRs and take strict action against anyone who re-encroaches upon the cleared land.
